  • Before you apply for a student visa, you must ensure you have been accepted into one of the institutions of your choice in the country before applying for visa.
  • Students will need to apply for a residence permit before arriving in Iceland. This can be done by contacting the Directorate of Immigration in Iceland or by notifying the nearest Icelandic embassy.
  • When you have arrived in Iceland, it is important that you apply for a Kennitala (an Icelandic ID/social security number). This is used for every day matters, such as opening a bank account.
  • Letter of acceptance from the institution in Iceland is required. This is proof that you can attend lectures and write exams at school.
  •  If you are given a scholarship, you must provide the letter of sponsorship from the body that awarded the scholarship to you.
  • Students are required to provide travel medical insurance with coverage of at least 30,000 Euros.
