About University of Ibadan
The University of Ibadan, popularly known as UI was founded in 1948 and is widely referred to as the first University in Nigeria. The University of Ibadan has its origin from the Yaba College which was founded in 1932. UI initially took off with academic programmes in Arts, Science, and Medicine, but is now a comprehensive citadel of learning with academic programmes in over thirteen faculties. The faculties of the Basic Medical Science, Clinical Science, Public Health, and Dentistry are organized as a College of Medicine.
The main thrust of UI for the 21st Century is “to be a world-class institution for academic excellence geared towards meeting societal needs”. Today, the University is consistently ranked among the prestigious Universities in the World, with a reported figure of over 3,500 matriculating yearly.
UI is located five miles (8 kilometers) from the center of the major city of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Admission Requirements for University of Ibadan
Requirements for Undergraduates
UI offers admission for courses in the faculties enlisted above. It is important for applicants to know the subject combinations for each department as advertised in the JAMB brochure. Candidates must obtain a minimum of 5 Credits in their O’Level results with compulsory credit in Mathematics, English and 3 other relevant subjects.
Applications for the 2017/2018 academic session is currently closed, but the University website can be visited for more information.
Direct entry-level applicants with the following criteria may be considered:
HND holders with Upper-Class Credit in a related field.
OND holders.
HND holders with two credit pass in appropriate disciplines.
Requirements for Postgraduate Students
The University of Ibadan Masters Degree program is offered in different programs, namely: Full-Time program, Part-Time program, and Occasional studded program. The student must have satisfied the requirements of the postgraduate school for him/her to be granted admission into the full-time program. Applicants considering a master's degree program at UI should take note of the following:
You must have graduated from the University of Ibadan or other recognized University in Nigeria, or in countries around the World.
The UI Faculty of Postgraduate Committee is saddled with the responsibility of determining admission requirements and finalizing the admission list.

Newsworthy Happenings
On May 29, 2017, the management of the school stopped academic activities for Undergraduate Students due to a protest by the student union over the failure of issuing identity cards to students, and an outlaw of electrical appliances in the University. On June 9th it was announced that the school will be reopened on the 20th, but school activities didn't start until the 2nd of July.
